How to Style and Wear a Princess Tulle Skirt for Every Day

How-to-Style-and-Wear-a-Princess-Skirt-Every-Day-Blog-Post

One of my favorite skirt shapes is an A-Line princess tulle skirt.

Whenever I wear it, it always makes me feel fabulous. One thing I hear about this type of skirt silhouette from my clients over and over again is that’s it’s a bit difficult to mix it into everyday outfits because if it’s “princess-sy”, romantic-ethereal nature. So in this post I wanted to share with you an outfit formula suggestion that grounds the skirt to make it every-day-appropriate.

Here are the 3 steps to this formula:

  1. CHOOSE THE SKIRT TYPE WISELY.
The kind of skirt you choose for your outfit will make a big difference – opt for a skirt that isn’t an extreme A-line as it might make your lower body look too large – and thus out of proportion with your upper body. To avoid too much width, stray from stiff fabrics that puff out too much, and go for ones with drape instead – like layers of tulle & silk. Also, the length of the skirt is important – my favorite is a few inches above the ankle as it draws attention to my narrowest point as opposed to dragging the eyes down too low, which may overpower my frame – this is important if you’re on the petite side, like I am.
  2. GO FOR AN UNEXPECTED PAIRING.
The key to making an outfit have a more everyday-feel is adding a bit of contrast when it comes to the top. I prefer to choose patterned, fitted tees to counter-balance the volume & romantic feel of the skirt. Stripes, florals, gingham & even abstract prints create an unexpected combo that is equal parts fresh & stylish.
  3. FINISH STRONG WITH BOLD ACCESSORIES.
To give the ensemble even more urban chic, choose bold (and colorful) accessories that create a unique statement, taking the skirt to the next level. Again, playing on the opposites makes the Parisian whimsy of the piece stand out more, while making it feel suitable for a brunch, day at the office or just an afternoon in the park.

I love this! And I love how the red bag made it stand out in a ‘blocky’ sort of way rather than clashing. I NEVER would have been able to come up with that, but it works!

Oh, wow, love that skirt! I actually have similar, a little bit shorter, but the same colour, and I usually wear it with a simple white T-shirt and rockstud ballerinas. It’s on my blog if you want to check it out.
