Closet Clearing to Make Way for Evolved Style + Favorite Stylish Baby Products

This past weekend, I decided to practice what I preach, and finally looked through my wardrobe with objective eyes — to evaluate what works for me right now: for my new body and lifestyle. I’ve heard many women say that their bodies changed after having a baby, and I couldn’t quite picture it until now. Even if you don’t end up going up in size, you just feel different and clothes fit you differently (especially if you’re nursing). I also feel that I am looking at my wardrobe from a new perspective now – where I simply don’t have space for clothing that I might “wear one day”. I want to see it as a reflection of who I am today – and be comfortable in every item I own.

So, I applied my own principles, and tried on every single item I’ve been holding onto — and the results were quite powerful. I realized that there were several categories of transformations:

  1. Pieces I don’t fit into well anymore (even though as one Netflix Special comedian said “if you can get it on, it fits”, it still has to fit you right – otherwise you just won’t wear it)
  2. Clothes that I loved for many years but just seems tired and “not me” anymore
  3. Outifts that no longer serve my lifestyle as a busy new mom

When I talk to my clients about their personal style, I always mention during our Style Personality Assessment that while it’s an accurate way of translating their personality into style terms, each person’s style does evolve throughout their life. The main elements remain; for example, if you have a romantic/feminine style, you probably will still lean towards flowing & drapy silhouettes and lighter colors and not all of a sudden become “dramatic” out of nowhere, choosing dark goth-like outfits, but the nuances might change. I’m experiencing a need for neutrals in my wardrobe right now as it’s so full of color and patterns since that’s what I usually gravitate towards – probably because my life currently is very colorful and intense, so I want to counter-balance that with cleaner, more polished looks.

After the edit, I came away with a quite significant pile of pieces, all in great condition, that are no longer taking up mental and physical space in my closet, making room for something new and exciting that I WILL wear. I also came away with a “needs list” – the same way I do during a client session; on it currently are new white jeans (ordered 2 pairs today, and so excited! — see below for some great options), and a few basics in neutral colors to mix in with my prints.

Because the pieces I’m discarding are in great condition (as I always make it a point to take meticulous care of my clothes), I decided to have an “End of Summer” Sale on my Poshmark account, so please stay tuned! To make it even more exciting, I’ll be donating 10% of the proceeds of the sale to a woman’s charity (haven’t picked one yet, so suggestions are welcome in the comments below!) — would love it to focus on one that empowers women to feel confident and beautiful.

On an unrelated note, I promised I’d share more stylish baby products I can’t live without. Aside from the Dock-A-Tot lounger, which I mentioned in my last post, we also swear by the Ollieworld Swaddles. They’re beautiful, stylish, and most importantly, effective. Each swaddle comes with a mesh laundry/storage bag or keepsake box, and is made of a super soft wicking fabric that helps regulate the baby’s temperature, preventing overheating. You also only need one size throughout, as it has adjustable velcro. Charlie sleeps so much better at night when he’s “ollied” 🙂

One other product that’s been a real fun addition to our life is a Binxy Baby shopping cart hammock — Charlie loves hanging out in it when we go on our weekly Trade Joe’s shopping sprees. It’s very lightweight so I can pack into my purse or diaper bag, and whip it out at the store – to immediately distract, delight and entertain, while keeping him safe during our shopping.

If you feel inspired to revamp your closet too — whether it be postpartum or just because — please don’t hesitate to contact me directly!

My Maternity Styling Package, called “Most Stylish Mom-to-Be” is a great option for new and future moms, and I have my Gift of Style Package available, which a best seller that helps you look at your style and wardrobe with new eyes.

Stay tuned for my upcoming blog post with even more stylish baby essentials, and more styling tips and insights along the way.

Until then!
