Snow Day Stylish Outfit Essentials

Winter Weather Essentials Guide by Modnitsa Styling

Winter definitely graced us with its presence this weekend, bringing our first official NYC snowstorm. It’s very tempting to stay inside all day when it’s snowing on the weekend, but I’m glad we decided to bundle up and go out to explore. I feel extremely lucky to live right next to Prospect Park – it was a great snowy walk, and truly felt like a Winter Wonderland 🙂

I often get questions from my styling clients about what the best winter weather essentials are to both stay warm and look cute/pulled together, and I thought I’d share my list of faves this year. One key to choosing them is to get pieces that have “staying power” – that you’ll wear for many years to come – which makes them a worthy closet investment.

  1. Warm puffer jacket. I love my Moncler puffer. I’ve honestly had this jacket for 7 years and it looks like the day I bought it. Mine is machine washable and super light, and has a hood which keeps the wind out. Here is a similar one I found in a metallic gray color. You can also check out these 2 better-priced alternatives: this Britt Hooded Puffer Coat by Andrew Marc and this Paris Fur Trim Puffer Coat by Marc New York.
  2. Winter-weather boots. I’m always on the lookout for the perfect boots that aren’t heavy and bulky but are also warm and waterproof. A few years ago, I bought a pair of knee-high wedge shearling boots by UGG (similar pair here), and they’re great for wearing with a skirt or tucked-in jeans – as they look polished and have a stable wedge sole. This year I also invested in a pair of Sorel Joan of Arctic Boots, and being the color-enthusiast that I am, I opted for a pair in blue suede with contrasting orange laces. They’re super warm and I feel invincible when I wear them!
  3. Cute & warm hat. I love my new “Park Slope” Toque hat by Tuck Shop from their “City of Neighborhoods” Collection. It’s the perfect light grayish-blue color with a contrasting red pom-pom; I styled mine by tucking the fold under for extra warmth!
  4. Shearling-lined gloves. I like to graduate my glove warmth as the temperature drops, and had to pull out my warmest pair yesterday, which I bought from Anthropologie a few years back. Here is a similar pair I found that looks super warm!

What are some of your favorite winter-weather essentials? Would love to hear in the comments below. Happy Snow Day Styling!
