Pre-Fall Transitional Outfit Inspiration

As the Summer comes to a close, most of us feel tempted to start rotating our wardrobes to add new exciting Fall pieces into the mix. With Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale last month, a lot of us have acquired pieces for the Fall that we cannot wait to wear. However, the weather in the North-East is sometimes warm all through October, which makes it difficult to do a full closet swap.

This is when transitional wardrobe pieces come into play, becoming increasingly useful to create outfits that are Fall-appropriate, while being light enough for Indian Summer weather. The key is to choose clothing in fabrics that are blended and lighter in weight, but still have the mood of the season, such as looser knit long sleeve sweaters, vegan suede jackets, light velvet tops & denim bottoms with some distress if you’re so inclined.

For this week’s outfit inspiration, I created a look that incorporates one of my favorite pieces of the season – a Boyfriend Jean, and added in some elements of Summer through colors and accents.

Yellow and blue is one of my favorite all-year color combos, and for early Fall, the light blue & pale sunshine yellow are the most beautiful as they remind us of the ultimate colors of Summer – sky and sun. I built this outfit around my new AG Nolan Boyfriend Jeans and J.Crew Linen V-Neck Tee, and to create cohesiveness, coordinated my favorite Alice & Olivia Yellow Blazer with YSL signature yellow pumps, and spiced it up with a Sibilia Jewelry Brass and Patina Necklace from Anthro (this one is sold out, but see similar options below). A Clare V. clutch in brown leather with pops of hot pink resonates & links with my brown leather Elephant Belt from Anthro from a few years ago (similar options below), and my favorite Evocateur Udaipur Cuff + Dior shades complete the look.

I’ve been hunting for the perfect pair of Boyfriend Jeans for a few months now, and was thrilled to find these mid-rise mildly distressed Nolan ones from AG at Anthro. They have a great slightly slouchy fit, with a raw edge hem that can be cuffed or left long.

Boyfriend jeans can be tricky to style as they tend to look oversized, and if not carefully paired can appear sloppy & lead to looking shapeless. My styling tip for choosing the best pairing for them is to mix in either the element of creative or feminine/glamorous style (or both) via fitted tops & coordinated accessories with sexy higher-heeled shoes, of cute Stan Smith-like sneakers and flirty Moto Jackets with blousy tops – this way the jeans are balanced out & remain comfortable without looking underdressed.
