Personal Shopping Finds Of The Week: Velvet Crush at & Other Stories, Anthropologie, L.K. Bennett
Everyone in the industry has been crushing on velvet this season, so this week I decided to check out some of my favorite shops to peruse their velvet selection, and here’s what I found!
My first stop in search of velvet was at L.K. Bennett – a beautiful new boutique that recently opened in the Oculus Westfield World Trade Center Mall, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to take my shopping clients to. It’s a UK Brand with amazing quality (and fabulous shoes which they’re actually most known for on the US market). My 1st most favorite velvet piece at the store was these super flattering Velvet Stretch Trousers. I’ve styled a number of clients in them over the past few months & they’ve fit great on various figure types. My best styling tip on wearing them is with a slightly oversized or tunic sweater like this one – loose or belted for extra waist definition.
These Pellino Velvet Ankle Boots are my other favorite from the store. The floral print is truly stunning and great when paired with the velvet pants or jeans for a statement touch. They’re currently 25% off in store (sold out online temporarily, but they have 3 NYC locations that you can check for them – or contact me directly and I’ll help you locate a pair!) They also come in this flats version in the same print in case you want something with a lower heel.
My second stop was at & Other Stories, which happens to be inside the Westfield World Trade Center Mall, right next door to L.K. Bennett. I found 2 amazing velvet pieces at the store: this Turtleneck Velvet Dress, which fits like a glove and reminds me of a dress I used to have in 8th grade which always made me look really grown up and polished when I wore it. It does sit rather high up on the hips – so I would recommend wearing it with opaque tights and knee-high or over-the-knee boots.
The 2nd piece was this Quilted Velvet Jacket, embroidered with sparkling gold and crafted in soft velvet. It’s a surprisingly flattering, slightly over-sized off-shoulder shape with a bit of an Asian influence. You can’t beat the price ($125!) and it’s super warm too!
While looking for velvet, I also happened to find my favorite sweater of the season – this oversized wool-blend turtleneck – it’s wide cut features a neck warming turtleneck and rib knitted hemlines. I wore it with my favorite distressed skinny jeans this past weekend and it made me feel equal amounts cozy and stylish.
The other 2 styles from the collage below are one of my favorite winter jackets from L.K. Bennett – this Edelle Jacket in Pink Rosehip from their Evergreen Collection, and this striped long-sleeve tee from & Other Stories that goes well with jeans or as a layering piece for your favorite sweater.
For my 3rd and final store of this week’s shopping highlights tour, I again ended up at Anthropologie – this time in the Rockefeller Center location. I tried on 2 Velvet Dresses at the store – this Shirtdress by Holding Horses in green, and this Crinkled Velvet Tunic by Floreat in neutral. While both dresses are very pretty on (a lot more flattering than on the hangers), I chose the green dress as I felt regal when wearing it, and the texture is very luxurious and soft. I tried it on with jeans – which gives it a bit more edge – but it can certainly be worn with tights and booties for a cozy Fall/Winter look.
